Yesterday, 2K Games has revealed a very interesting bit of information. The publisher revealed that it’s currently working with a new studio called Cloud Chamber. So what, you might ask… Well, the developers over at Cloud Chamber are working on a new game in the BioShock series. However, you shouldn’t expect it to arrive anytime soon.
The news was announced via 2K Games’ new Twitter message which also confirmed that the game won’t be releasing in the near future. The message states that the next iteration of the acclaimed BioShock franchise will be in development for the next several years.
However, some news sources on the internet are already gathering information, so we can speculate about the new game a bit. We already know that Melissa MacCoubrey, the writer of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, will be taking up the role of an associate creative director for the new BioShock game. In addition, Cloud Chamber’s game design team will be led by Shawn Elliot, who previously worked as a level designer on some previous BioShock titles over at Irrational Games. These names are only the tip of the iceberg…
Cloud Chamber will be filled with industry veterans who worked on a plethora of critically acclaimed games including titles for the BioShock series. According to a press release, the newly formed studio will be lead by Kelley Gilmore who will serve as Cloud Chamber’s Global Studio Head and will also be the first woman in 2K history to launch and lead a development studio. She previously worked on Sid Meier’s Civilization and XCOM series.
So yeah… We expect some great things to come our way from Cloud Chamber. If you’re interested in learning more about this new development unit, you can hop on their official page and read about it a bit more. As for the rest of us gamers, we just have to stay patient. The new BioShock is still a long way out, but it’s nice to know that it’s coming and it’s in the hands of people who know their craft.
