The holiday season is just around the corner. We can feel a strong increase in our game sales as more people are looking for something to buy for themselves or as Christmas gifts for their loved ones. We started to wonder what kind of games will be the most popular ones to put under the Christmas tree and early signs point to the conclusion that the greatest gaming gifts will be the best games of the past decade.
We summed up our early December sales worldwide to give you an insight into what do people choose as their holiday gifts. While our top 10 is dominated by gift cards (these are excluded from the list) and new games, there are a few notable old games that made it into our list too. Our speculations about this year’s gaming shopping trends can be found below.
1. Minecraft
Minecraft is our undisputed champion for December, running ahead in sales from the rest of the pack. Having in mind that Microsoft just recently introduced cross-play with PlayStation 4 and keeps on updating the game on a monthly basis, the result in front shouldn’t be surprising.
2. Grand Theft Auto V
Even years after its release, GTA V didn’t lose its charm. For a few years straight, this game doesn’t drop out of any top-sellers list and Eneba is no exception. Recent updates to GTA Online once again boosted GTA V’s sales and secured a strong 2nd place on our list.
3. Football Manager 2020
We have to admit that this is an unexpected surprise. Football Manager 2020 might not be everyone’s cup of tea, however, polished gameplay and some new game features secured the game an honorable 3rd spot on our list. Even in winter, football season doesn’t stop!
4. FIFA 20
What have we said about football… FIFA 20 is one of the best Christmas gifts money can buy – for gamers who are into sports. We believe that the game could be even higher on our list if it wasn’t for the PC version since FIFA usually sells very well on consoles.
5. Red Dead Redemption 2
Another Rockstar Games title on our list is no surprise. The recent PC release of Red Dead Redemption 2 gave PC players a chance to finally experience one of the best games in recent years.
6. DiRT series
Not one but two DiRT games made it into our list, but we decided to feature them in a single, shared position. DiRT 3 and DiRT Rally are now on sale for a special price (under 1 euro). If you’re looking for a cheap present for someone who loves rally racing, you should pick these.
7. ARK: Survival Evolved
Survival games in our top-sellers list are not a usual sight, but recent ARK: Survival Evolved updates – and lack of good alternatives – boosted the sales of this game by quite a margin in December.
8. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
Even with PUBG Corp. plans on starting a free-to-play version of the game, this doesn’t stop players who were looking for some real battle royale experience to give this game a try. If you’re among those, you should also give PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds a chance to impress!
9. GRID 2
Another cheap racing game that made our list – the price is far from the only reason. Just recently, the developers of the game released a remastered version of the first GRID game, so fans who were playing it craved for a sequel. For now, there’s only the old one, but we believe that it will get a remaster as well. Someday…
10. Forza Horizon 4
Last but not least in our TOP 10 game sale list is the ultimate racing hit Forza Horizon 4. Just a week ago the developers announced a new free update for the game called The Eliminator. And the update introduced battle royale mechanics into the game. Such news was well received and has boosted Forza Horizon 4 sales significantly, securing it the last spot on our December’s list.
