If you’re a fan of DOTA 2, you know a thing or two about Sébastien “Ceb” Debs – the legendary player of the most successful DOTA 2 team in history OG. He announced his retirement from the game last year after winning the most prestigious DOTA 2 tournament in the world The International. However, his rest wasn’t long. This weekend OG announced that the former coach and off-laner of the team will be returning to the roster and replace current mid player Syed “SumaiL” Hassan.
In an interview, Ceb shared a few insights about his departure and reasons for his return. He stated that he was feeling a bit burned out and decided to step down from the roster in order to keep the organization in the right mind-set. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to give OG the best version of himself and that was the main reason to step away from DOTA 2. However, after his short holiday, Ceb said that his motivation was reignited after certain teams made claims about being better than back-to-back The International champions.
“I take offense from teams thinking that they can win against us. After what has been done (two TI titles in a row) they should realize that this isn’t realistic. I feel very offended and I feel challenged – this is now a personal duel.”
The interview concluded with Ceb talking about his teammates Johan “N0tail” Sundstein and Topias Miikka “Topson” Taavitsainen. He also gave a shout-out to his retired teammates Anathan “ana” Pham and Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka saying that each of them was what made playing Dota 2 fun for him.
Does this mean that OG will challenge for the third The International title? This might be the case. The biggest DOTA 2 tournament was originally scheduled to take place in Stockholm, Sweden, from August 18th to 23rd. In light of the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Valve delayed the event until April 30th. There’s a lot of time to get the old band back together and prove that two titles in a row weren’t just accidents.
