We have to be honest… We spent all weekend playing the latest Gearbox game Borderlands 3. And it seems that we were not alone. According to Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, the latest Borderlands game is the best Gearbox launch in the company’s history. Well, at least the one on PC. In a Twitter message, Randy has shared the news that Borderlands 3 launch day peak of concurrent players is about twice-as-high as the all-time peak of Borderlands 2.

These numbers should shut all the discussions about the importance of Steam for new game releases. Borderlands 3 launched exclusively on Epic Games Store and, according to some sources, has almost 250 000 players playing the game on PC. Having in mind that Borderlands 2 all-time peak was around 125 000, it’s a great achievement for the developers of the game (and Epic Games Store for that matter).

However, Borderlands 3 console launch wasn’t that great. During the weekend, many players complained about the technical issues which plagued the console version of the game. According to sources, Borderlands 3 console versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are struggling with frame rate issues.

In any case, it’s only a matter of time until these issues are fixed. Gearbox has already acknowledged that console version still needs some work on optimization part and assured that the team is already working on an update which should repair the most prominent issues. We can only hope that it won’t take long.
