Borderlands movie is not a new idea, but it was in limbo for quite some time. The initial idea for the movie was announced almost 5 years ago by Lionsgate, but it never became a reality. However, a restart of the project is at hand as Gearbox finally broke the silence and gave them some details about the movie.
Randy Pitchford, the president of Gearbox and one of the producers of Borderlands movie shared a Tween in welcomed Eli Roth joining the project as director.
If that name sounds familiar to you, you might be a fan of horror movies. In the past, Eli Roth directed Cabin Fever, Hostel (2 parts) and a bunch of other famous scary movies. Does this mean that Borderlands movie might be a spooky one? Perhaps. Frankly, we just don’t know.
In an official statement Eli Roth said this:
“I’m so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team, and studio. I have a long, successful history with Lionsgate — I feel like we have grown up together and that everything in my directing career has led to a project of this scale and ambition. I look forward to bringing my own energy, ideas, and vision to the wild, fun, and endlessly creative world of the game. Randy Pitchford and everyone at Gearbox have been incredibly supportive of my ideas — it really feels like a perfect storm of creators coming together. We are out to make a new classic, one which the fans of the game will love, but also one which will find new audiences globally.”
You should also know that the director is not the only famous person attached to the project. Borderlands movie will be based on a script written by Craig Mazin – the writer behind The Hangover Part II and Chernobyl miniseries scripts.
We hope to learn more about the renewed production of Borderlands movie in the coming months. Keep an eye out for more updates!
