Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is one of the most anticipated titles of this fall. With a release scheduled for October 25th, the developers are sharing more and more details about the title. We’ve already written about map list leaks and new multiplayer modes, but today we’re talking exclusivity. In recent State of Play, fans of the game were treated by the new campaign trailer (you can find it below) and got surprised by the announcement of PS4-exclusive content.
According to the news, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players on PlayStation 4 will get an exclusive game mode for a year. A year! The mode, locked behind the exclusivity deal is called Special Ops, a survival type of game, which is very similar to an old Horde mode from the previous Call of Duty installments. It allows players to play through short scripted missions solo or in co-op and fight against waves of enemies.
The mode was absent in the last few Call of Duty games, so the return of it is very welcome. However, the exclusivity for PlayStation 4 until October 1st, 2020, sounds like a spit in the face for PC and Xbox One gamers. While exclusive content for a certain gaming platform is not a new thing, this is really unexpected from a game which boasts full cross-play functionality.
In any case, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare looks like a game which can hold our interest for a while, maybe even an entire year. The latest open beta test concluded this week setting a new franchise record for Call of Duty series, with the majority of players joining the test on PC. This has to be worth something. Right?
