Shocking! DualShock 4 is being replaced by a new device called DualSense. Yesterday, with a lengthy blog post, PlayStation Europe revealed the newly designed piece and explained some new features coming with the new controller. And oh boy… it does look really sexy. Take a look:
According to a post, the design team decided to keep much of what gamers loved about DualShock 4, while also adding new functionality and refining the design. This is what Sony itself is saying about DualSense:
We had a great opportunity with PS5 to innovate by offering game creators the ability to explore how they can heighten that feeling of immersion through our new controller. This is why we adopted haptic feedback, which adds a variety of powerful sensations you’ll feel when you play, such as the slow grittiness of driving a car through mud. We also incorporated adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense so you can truly feel the tension of your actions, like when drawing a bow to shoot an arrow.
In addition to these adaptive triggers, Sony also says that it improved the battery, lessening the weight of the controller even with the new features added. It also ditched “Share” button which is being replaced by something called “Create”. We don’t know why, but for us, it seems that the button will still share a similar function… Maybe it just sounds better.
Lastly, there are new default colors. We have to admit that white and black looks really slick, but we can’t help but wonder whether the white will remain white and won’t become light grey or brown after a few months of usage. We’ll just have to wait and see, but if the new console is as good looking as the new controller, we already know who won the beauty contest among the next generation.
