Job changes in triple-A studios is a common thing. However, when it comes to higher profile positions it can directly impact the game’s future. According to a recent update in LinkedIN, Sebastian Stępień, a creative director behind Cyberpunk 2077, left his position in CD Projekt RED and joined Blizzard Entertainment.
Sebastian Stępień has been working in the Polish game studio since 2006 and while in position, has directly dealt with all three The Witcher series games. He’s also been a guy responsible for the latest CD Projekt RED game Cyberpunk 2077, so the news about his departure from the company came as a surprise. While sci-fi RPG already released their new title’s gameplay demo and offered tons of details about systems implemented in the game, Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t even have a release date.
The LinkedIN listing in Sebastian’s profile reveals that he’s now working as a creative director on a new, yet unannounced Blizzard game. Recently, Blizzard has been hiring heavily for an unannounced Diablo project so this might be the game which seduced this industry veteran. However, it’s worth mentioning, that Blizzard is reportedly looking to build new franchises, so this might also mean that Blizzard is developing something else entirely. Frankly, we just don’t know.
As for Cyberpunk 2077’s future, this might not be a bad sign after all. Maybe Sebastian Stępień felt like his work is done and it’s time to move on. That would mean that highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 is approaching its inevitable release. We’ll just have to wait and see.
