Did you know that…
Tail’s real name is…
The cute nerdy yellow fox from Sonic games and probably the best video game movie – Sonic the Hedgehog 2, isn’t really named Tails. His real name is Miles Prower or miles per hour. Hahaha, get it? Miles per hour… Okay, moving on.
Princess Zelda was named after the American author
Speaking of names, the titular princess in Legend of Zelda was inspired and named after the American author Scott F. Fitzgerald’s wife and also a famous American author herself – Zelda Fitzgerald. However, naming women Zelda doesn’t end there as beloved actor Robin Williams being a fan of Nintendo games named his daughter after the famed princess.
Running out of luck
Today, regenerating health has become a staple system of any game, however, in the Uncharted series this feature is called luck. The more damage Nathan takes the less lucky he gets. Meanwhile, enemies become luckier to get a clear shot at him. If you’ve played any of the Uncharted games, you know how lucky Nate really is.
By the way, did you catch Nolan North’s cameo in the Uncharted movie?
Just breathe
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard had zombies that reacted to the character’s breathing. To survive, you had to hold a button to hold Ethan’s breath near enemies, but this mechanic was removed because playtesters also started holding their breath. Who said Resident Evil games weren’t immersive?
John Marston could have been voiced by…
Today, it’s hard to imagine John Marston voiced by someone else than Rob Wiethoff. With his performance, the voice actor made the titular character of Red Dead Redemption entirely his. However, when casting the role, Rockstar Games wanted and considered none other than the face of the western himself – Clint Eastwood. We don’t know how that would have turned out, but we sure are glad by Wiethoff’s success.
The Sims was created after the fire
The idea for the original The Sims game was born after the game’s creator Will Wright lost his home and all of his possessions in the fire. He pondered the idea of a game where people have to start building their life from scratch. Though The Sims was meant to be an architecture simulator, Wright soon realized that adding sims into the game made the game a lot more fun.
The Sims can’t live without…
While we’re on the topic of the Sims games, did you know that the first object that was implemented in the original game was… Drumroll, please! The good ol’ toilet!
