We don’t know about you guys, but we occasionally love to watch a good documentary. Even better if it’s somehow related to games. If you’re anything like us, you might’ve already read our recommendations on which movies to watch while taking a break from gaming. Today we’d like to introduce you to “Playing Hard”, another recorded wonder which just recently premiered on Netflix.
“Playing Hard” is a 2018 documentary that goes behind the scenes of For Honor development and offers unprecedented access to enter a highly secretive world, located behind the door to one of the biggest entertainers in the industry. The documentary follows the creation of the game across a 4-year period with all the ups and downs, drama and other things.
If you’re skeptical about the movie, don’t be. “Playing Hard” is not just another marketing thing to attract more gamers. The movie was created by independent filmmaker Jean-Simon Chartier who, in order to finish up the movie, even had to take his project to the court as Ubisoft decided to deny him accessing the studio halfway in the game’s development.
While the movie was released on DVD and Vimeo in 2018, this Friday “Playing Hard” debuted on the world’s most popular streaming platform Netflix, giving more people a chance to see it. Even if you’re not into For Honor game, you shouldn’t be sceptical. “Playing Hard” gives a very interesting look inside the development processes in the triple-A studio. The movie doesn’t shy away from portraying the production problems that many other studios experience as well.
