In 2017, publisher Electronic Arts decided to shut down Visceral Games which at the time was working on an unannounced Star Wars game. Rumor was that the game was developed as a single-player experience, but EA had a different vision for the new title. The project was transferred to EA Vancouver studio with hopes to shift the original narrative-driven concept towards an open-world piece. However, it looks like EA Vancouver team has failed even though the game was directed by the publisher, Kotaku reports.
While fans of Star Wars are still waiting for the official confirmation from the publisher, developers who were working on the title have confirmed: the development process was put on halt. Sources say that EA’s top decision-makers decided that EA Vancouver studio should shift their focus to another yet unannounced Star Wars project of smaller scale which might be released in late 2020.
To be completely fair, EA might restart the development of their open-world game after the launch of the ‘smaller title’. And to those who want more of Star Wars, we wish you patience. Respawn Entertainment is currently working on their Star Wars game titled Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which is expected to be released this year.
