Runic Games might not exist anymore but the universe they created lives on. One of the best RPG-dungeon crawling adventures Torchlight is getting a new entry in the series called Torchlight Frontiers. The new game was supposed to be released sometime this year, however, the developers now confirmed that the game is delayed to 2020.
For those who didn’t know, Torchlight Frontiers is a free-to-play title, currently in development by Echtra Games, the new studio established by Runic Games co-founder Max Schaefer. The game is being published by Perfect World Entertainment and should be released for PC and consoles. However, the new game is not the Torchlight you might remember.
According to developers, Torchlight Frontiers is a shared-world game where players will be exploring a living, breathing universe while still retaining some elements from the Torchlight series – fans will definitely appreciate these. The official game description reads:
“Torchlight Frontiers combines the heart of the beloved Torchlight series with a shared, persistent and dynamically generated world. In true Torchlight style, players will team up with friends and devoted pets to hack and slack their way through a vibrant world, discover ancient ruins of lost civilizations and brave dungeons filled with riches and dangerous creatures.”
It all sounds amazing, so we don’t mind a slight delay. Especially when it’s a free-to-play game. Commenting on a delay, Max Schaefer explained that the team is currently making some changes to the game that are taking a bit longer than expected. We should also keep in mind that Echtra Games is also working on Torchlight II for consoles so that takes up some time too. Anyway, if you’re interested – expect some more news in January… We have our fingers crossed.
And while you wait, glance at some awesome game deals for the original Torchlight series.
