Microsoft has revealed what free games will be joining the Xbox Game Pass lineup in May and it looks like May is all about indies. Among already acclaimed titles, new joiners will include some of the long-awaited day-one releases.
What free Xbox Game Pass games will you be able to play in May?
Coming to Xbox Game Pass on May 3 is Loot River, a game that has some unique and interesting gameplay mechanics. By controlling Tetris-like blocks you’ll be exploring the levels and using them to your advantage during combat encounters, and it looks really cool! The game will be available with Xbox Game Pass on both console and PC.
Citizen Sleeper joins the free Xbox Game Pass games lineup on May 5 and promises to deliver a narrative-driven RPG experience where you’ll have to form friendships, steer among different factions, and survive in a ruined space station that has become a home to thousands of people. The game is a day one release and is only available on the console.
Another game releasing on May 5 and going straight to Xbox Game Pass is Trek to Yomi, a love letter to Samurai cinema and the most notable director of the genre – Akira Kurosawa. You’ve probably heard about Ghost of Tsushima incorporating a special black and white mode named after the famed director, but it was only a graphical filter. Trek to Yomi is colored in black and white, meaning the game uses light and shadows to its artistic advantage. Truly a gem to samurai movies and samurai genre nerds.
A side-scrolling action JRPG Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising joins the free Xbox Game Pass games on May 10 with beautiful 2.5D visuals and fast-paced gameplay. If you’re a fan of classic JRPGs, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising might be a nostalgia hit you’ve been looking for. The game is available on both console and PC.
If you love deck-building games mixed with turn-based strategy, Floppy Knights coming to Xbox Game Pass on May 24 just might be right up your alley. Unique terrain to outsmart enemies and formidable bosses will challenge your problem-solving skills. Floppy Knights will push you to build the best deck suitable for each level and your own playstyle. The game will be available on both console and PC.
Who’s up for some spaceship salvage and chill with Hardspace Shipbreaker? In this game, each spaceship is presented like a 3D physics-based puzzle you need to solve while floating in Zero-G. There are no enemies to fight, nor dangers to overcome, only you, relaxing music, ships to salvage, and the endless vacuum. There’s nothing quite like Hardspace Shipbreaker and the game is coming to Xbox Game Pass for free on May 24 for PC only.
Probably the biggest game coming to Xbox Game Pass in May is Sniper Elite 5, the game that is famous for its X-ray slow-motion kills. The 5th game puts more emphasis on tactics like gunshot sounds, wind, or breathing together with weapon customization, and freedom to approach the missions according to your gaming style. Ready to snipe some nazis? The game drops on Xbox Game Pass on May 26 to consoles and PC.
The last but not least game is Pac-Man Museum+ coming on May 27 to both console and PC. What can be said about this Pac-Man collection? It’s Pac-Man! A collection features a bunch of classic Pac-Man games released on consoles and arcades. If you’re feeling nostalgic for Pac-Man, this collection is for you!
