We have to be honest that news about one of the most popular games in a decade coming to the next generation of consoles wasn’t a big surprise. Yesterday, Rockstar Games finally revealed that GTA 5 and GTA Online are being prepared for a release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 11th.
It’s worth noting that current GTA 5 and GTA Online players can play these games on next generation consoles thanks to backwards compatibility, so the new version will be much appreciated by those who want to enjoy better performance and graphics. According to Rockstar Games, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions will be ‘expanded and enhanced’.
One more noteworthy detail is GTA Online’s exclusivity deal with Sony. Upon release GTA Online’s standalone version will be available for free for PlayStation 5 players for a limited time. For three months, until February of 2022, GTA Online will cost nothing for owners of PlayStation 5. However, during this time the game will still be available on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, but players who will want to own the game on these consoles will have to pay for it… Rockstar Games said that the company has no plans for free next-gen upgrades.
In any case, it’s nice to see GTA 5 still going strong after all these years. Originally, the game was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, so it’s super nice to see a title that outlived its original hardware a couple of times over.
