IEM Katowice without a doubt is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) CS:GO Majors in the world. As we’ve announced earlier, the 2020s event will return to Spodek Arena from February 28th through March 1st and will see 16 teams to battle it out for the 500 000 dollar prize pool. As the event date is getting closer, we now know the first 10 teams who secured their place in the competition.
There are three different ESL Pro Tour winners who automatically get an invite to IEM Katowice 2020 – Astralis, Fanatic, and mousesports. In addition, organizers of the event sent out 7 direct invites for teams to make the competition even more fierce. These teams are 100 Thieves, Evil Geniuses, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Natus Vincere, Virtus Pro, Team Vitality and Team Liquid.
While there’s still some room, there are a few notable teams who didn’t get their invite. Last year finalists FaZe are not on the list, same goes to the newly formed powerhouse, better known for Dota 2 players – OG. However, these teams will get their chance to secure their spot in the event via open qualifiers. There are 6 remaining spots that will be distributed to each region winners throughout the year.
You can learn more about the event on the official IEM Katowice page.
