Mojang and Microsoft have many reasons to celebrate. Their biggest game is still as strong as ever, boasting huge player numbers and new records. This weekend, Mojang released a new statement saying that Minecraft now has 600 million active players across multiple platforms.
Surprised? You’re not alone. Apparently, while the game is still fairly popular in the West, the main portion of this ever-growing player base comes from China where you can get a F2P version of the game. According to stats, there are over 400 million Minecraft players in China alone. While this might not seem super huge, it’s worth pointing out that in 2019 there were only 300 million new users making it the fastest-growing player base in the world since Minecraft’s initial launch in 2009.
A bit earlier this year, we wrote that Minecraft surpassed 200 million units sold across multiple gaming platforms. We expect this number to grow in the future as the developer makes the game more accessible and releases a lot of new content.
For now, you can play Minecraft on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Mobile. You can also play this game on the next-generation consoles as old PS4 and Xbox One games, however, we expect to learn something about dedicated PS5 and Xbox Series X Minecraft versions fairly soon.
