Yesterday we wrote about an insane sales number reached by Capcom and Resident Evil franchise. However, even 100 million is still far off of the number Minecraft managed to smash this week. According to new data, Minecraft now has more than 200 million copies sold worldwide.

The news was announced via a new blog post by Mojang Studios Studio Head Helen Chiang. According to the post, in the last few months, Minecraft has seen a huge increase in player numbers (mainly due to quarantine) which pushed Minecraft over the milestone. Moreover, this isn’t sales only. According to Helen Chiang, Minecraft currently boasts over 126 million active monthly players. Let that number sink in…

Of course, quarantine is not the only reason Minecraft saw such a big influx of new and returning players. In March, Microsoft announced a lot of educational Minecraft content going free for the time being. In addition, recently we wrote about Minecraft’s visual uplift allowing players to utilize RTX video cards.

All these factors allowed Mojang to brag about being the most successful game on the planet. To grasp how far ahead Minecraft currently is in sales numbers, think about the runner-up – GTA V was dubbed as one of the most successful games ever but in its time the game only managed to accumulate around 120 million copies sold.
