Learn the Structure
Red Dead Redemption 2 story is structured through a sequence of unique events and missions. These events create the conditions necessary for certain characters to reveal their personalities. These events, one by one, seamlessly involve you in the game’s world, and they also ease you into what otherwise would be quite a complicated web of multiple inner-relations tossed straight at your face. The gameplay is categorized into 6 chapters, 2 Epilogues, and a bunch of side as well as strangers-given missions.
Each Chapter provides the Red Dead Redemption 2 story with unique circumstances, unfair challenges, numerous twists, new faces, and new goals. Every character within the Dutch Van de Linde’s gang changes in correlation to these circumstances, and at the very end of the story, those that remain are no longer the same people that you’ve started your adventure with.
The Epilogue parts start a few years after the whole ordeal has finished. Through the epilogue, you no longer control Arthur Morgan, and instead, John Marston is now in the very centre of attention. The Red Dead Redemption 2 story is an extraordinary thrilling adventure in the sense that it portrays the events even after the main protagonist (Arthur Morgan) perishes. Know this, as long as there are unanswered questions, you can be certain: the story shall continue until every little bit is sorted out. Literally, until you don’t 100% complete the game, you won’t be able to witness the very final scene to the Red Dead Redemption 2 story!
The Narrative
As mentioned before, the action takes place in USA, 1899. The technological progress is pushing the renegade-style of living into an unlikely possibility, and one of the most ferocious criminal gangs of the west, Dutch Van der Linde’s gang, knows that their era of ruling is about to close in. However, in order to retire and end their days in prosperity, the gang’s members agree to pull off a few more heists and gather a substantial money stash to secure their futures.
Red Dead Redemption 2 story begins with an unsuccessful ferry heist which leaves the gang several members short. They are forced to quickly make their escape, and by doing so, a significant amount of money gets left behind. In order to gather their funding required to ensure the soon-to-come retirement, the gang heists a train, which is owned by a wealthy and powerful oil magnate Leviticus Cornwall. The guy hires the antagonist Pinkerton Detective Agency to track down and diminish the gang of outlaws. After the train heist, the Red Dead Redemption 2 story continues to follow the gang as they successfully complete numerous smaller gigs, however, a single end-it-all scheme remains in the unknown horizon.
The action starts turning south after the successful Valentine’s bank heist, and a not so successful shootout between the gang and Cornwall’s men. The gang’s hideout camp has been discovered by one of the hired Cornwall’s agents, and so the gang is forced to relocate. The Red Dead Redemption 2 story setting changes and now Dutch’s group appears to be amidst the two warring families, of course Dutch is the one responsible for the quarrel. His actions are seen through and the two families ambush the gang, which results in Sean MacGuire dying, and John’s son, Jack, kidnapped. Further events unfold, the gang slaughters both families, and new information regarding Jack’s location unfolds.
This is where Red Dead Redemption 2 story introduces the crime lord Angelo Bronte who has bought Jack, however, the guy embraces the gang and returns Jack. Further events unfold, Bronte leads the outlaws into a trap, however, he fails, gets kidnapped, and in the end gets fed to the alligator (what a scene!). Dutch plans out another bank heist, but Pinkerton Agency intervenes, major shootout unloads, John Marston gets arrested, couple members get shot, and the rest are forced to split with Dutch, Arthur, Escuella, Micah, and Williamson finding themselves on a boat to Cuba.
Red Dead Redemption 2 story isn’t a fairy-tale, and the ship to Cuba gets obliterated by the torrential storm. The crew survives and are now on the Isle of Guarma. They enrol in a revolution between the enslaved locals and the sugar plantation tyrants, the gang joins the revolution and walks out victorious, thus managing to secure their way back to the US. Further conflicts between Dutch’s gang and Pinkerton Agency ensues, and Dutch gets paranoid, leading to serious inner-gang conflicts; Arthur starts questioning Dutch’s decisions, Dutch starts suspecting everyone to be an informant, Bell manipulates Dutch into even higher levels of paranoia and so, Red Dead Redemption 2 story continues!
