EA Sports might be the one dominating the market when it comes to football games, however, when it comes to basketball, it’s a whole another story. For years now, 2K Sports has held the title of a go-to game if you want to play ball on your PC or console. In 2019 NBA Live made some changes which, according to many game critics, were good enough to consider buying EA Sports version of NBA instead of 2K’s.
Naturally, fans were hoping that this year NBA Live might even catch up with its counterpart, but now it seems that the mission is delayed. EA Sports announced that NBA Live 20 is being pushed back to Q3 which means that the game will come out sometime between October 1st and December 31st.
It’s a really weird decision, considering that NBA 2K already has trailers, cover stars, and firm release date. NBA Live 20 has none of those things and from a glance, it seems that EA Sports conceded. However, EA’s representative issued a statement regarding the delay:
“We’re planning a different approach to NBA Live this year, and will have more to share in the quarter ahead.”
We can only speculate what this “different approach” means. The fans of basketball and video games already have a theory that NBA Live is going to change its monetization model and will go free-to-play. Considering the fact that, in the last few years, sports games accumulated a record amount of money through microtransactions – the scenario seems entirely possible.
We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds. Basketball fans won’t spend their autumn without a game, as NBA 2K20 is set to be released for September 6th. You can pre-order the game from our store.
