Blizzard has been teasing about the new Hearthstone expansion for quite a while by sharing random videos and Tweets in the official social media channels. Yesterday the teases were concluded with the official reveal of Rise of Shadows – a villain themed expansion for the Blizzard’s card game.
Rise of Shadows will become the first-ever Hearthstone expansion starting a new storyline which should persist throughout the whole year with more expansion expanding upon the setting.
Blizzard announcement reads:
“After suffering defeat at the hands of the League of Explorers, Arch-Thief Rafaam realized that his designs on Azeroth would require more roguery than he alone could muster. In the years since, he has dwelled in the shadows, recruiting the greatest antagonists Hearthstone has ever seen to join the League of E.V.I.L.”
Similarly to other Hearthstone expansions, Rise of Shadows will feature 135 new cards and a few new mechanics. ‘Schemes’ will be a new type of spell which will grow in power each turn it stays in the player’s hand. The expansion should also feature Defenders of Dalaran creatures which will be able to cast Twinspells – spells which can be duplicated and cast again.
Rise of Shadows should be released worldwide on April 9th on PC, iOS, and Android.
