There’s no denying that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a huge game. This week we learned how huge it really is. PUBG Corporation reported that it already sold more than 70 million copies of the game across multiple platforms, making it one of the most successful shooter games of all time.
According to the latest report, the figure represents PC + PlayStation 4 + Xbox One copies sold but doesn’t include monthly subscriptions such as Google Stadia or Xbox Game Pass, meaning that the true number of players who played PUBG over its lifecycle might be even bigger.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds started real strong back in 2017. It gave birth to an entirely new gaming genre – battle royale – which is popular to this date. However, we can guesstimate that recent years for PUBG Corporation weren’t as successful. The game surpassed 50 million copies sold back in 2018, meaning that game sales slowed down a bit. In any case, 20 million units in 2 years are quite a feat for any game.
PUBG doesn’t seem like stopping any time soon. In the coming weeks, the game should receive a few updates including the start of the new season which is scheduled to kick off on July 22nd. In addition to an old-new map Sanhok that was remade, it will also bring few quality-of-life improvements – bug fixes, tweaks, and so on.
