Yesterday, during the special 23-year celebration and Pokémon Direct presentation, The Pokémon Company has officially revealed a pair of new Pokémon games for the Nintendo Switch – Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. These two new games are totally fresh traditional RPGs in the series since Pokémon Sun and Moon released for Nintendo 3DS back in 2016.
As it has always been, with the new core RPG the new generation of Pokémon follows. The new trailer revealed generation eight starters: grass-type Grookey, fire-type Scornbunny, and water-type Sobble. The developers have also confirmed that plenty of new Pokémons are on the way.
The trailer presented a 3D setting of the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield which featured new areas and trainers. Players will get to explore the new region called Galar which was described as a more modern setting suitable for the new generation.
As of now, there is no release date for the new games, but players might expect the official launch sometime in November. Nintendo confirmed the 2019 release window, which is in line with the traditional release schedule for the series. Pokémon: Let’s Go! games launched on Nintendo Switch in November, much like the previous mainline RPGs years before.
