Yesterday, the new Nintendo Pokémon Direct stream made a surprise reveal about the future plans for the franchise. For the first time in a long while, Game Freak won’t re-release their Pokémon games with some additional content, and instead will introduce a new expansion pass, so you wouldn’t need to re-purchase the game. It’s definitely a step in the right direction…
As revealed by the stream, the upcoming expansion passes for both games will introduce a lot of new content including new and old Pokémon, new locations to explore, fresh characters and their outfits as well as some new items. However, not everything will be available right from the get-go. According to the announcement, the expansion pass (or should we say passes) will be released in two parts.
The first one is called The Isle of Armor and should be available by the end of June 2020. The second one – The Crown of Tundra – is scheduled for the 2020s Autumn release. The new expansion (both of its parts are being sold as one) is now available for preorder, so if you’re interested, be sure to check it out. While Eneba currently doesn’t have the expansion in stock, we have some awesome prices for Nintendo eShop gift cards. Also, by pre-ordering the expansion on Nintendo’s store, you’ll get themed outfits for Pikachu and Eevee on your Pokémon Sword and Shield.
You can learn more about these additions to the original game (and even more Pokémon news) by watching the full Nintendo Pokémon Direct stream below:
One more thing worthy of a mention is that the content of the expansion won’t require you to first finish the original story of Pokémon Sword and Shield. So if you’re a slow player or just recently decided to give these games a try, don’t worry… You still will be able to enjoy some new areas and Pokémons.
