Good news for those who missed the classic action-adventure title from the early 2000s! Apparently, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is getting a remake! There have been multiple leaks about the project before – fans noticed the Prince of Persia motifs and symbols featured in Ubisoft Forward promotional material and Amazon UK’s listing for ‘Prince of Persia Remake’ has also been spotted by fans but the latest leak comes from Russian Uplay.
Screenshots from Russian Uplay
ResetEra forum user AndrewDTF has managed to take a few screenshots of promotional art that were briefly featured on the Russian version of Uplay. Banners were quickly removed from the platform but it was already too late – screenshots have spread rapidly throughout social media.
Judging from the leaked images, it seems that the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake will slightly deviate from the artistic style present in the original. The 2003 game made by Kudosoft went for a more stylized aesthetic while the Remake artwork pursues a photorealistic approach. Fans have divided opinions about the new look, some memes are already emerging in social network sites while others are not willing to conclude anything before the official reveal which will likely happen later today on the Ubisoft Forward live stream.
Legacy of the series
Some of the younger gamers might not remember the Prince of Persia series, especially since the franchise hasn’t been discussed very often in recent years. The original 2003 title made by Kudosoft transported the players into ancient Persia. There were many cool agility-based gameplay features present in the game such as wall-running, climbing, rewinding of time, all backed by enticing third-person combat.
Prince of Persia was quite popular at the time of its release and it is not surprising that it spawned multiple sequels. The game is also widely considered to be a spiritual precursor to the Assassin’s Creed series.
