We’ve foretold that Resident Evil 2 Remake is going to be a huge hit, we just didn’t anticipate how huge. Capcom has just announced that Resident Evil 2 Remake shipped 3 million copies worldwide in its first week and is catching up with the most successful games in the series.

To put the success of the Resident Evil 2 Remake into perspective, consider that the original game throughout its full life cycle sold just a bit over 4.96 million copies. The remake gathered more than half of this figure in a week. However, this is not the end since Capcom is expecting the game to keep attracting the public’s attention further down the road as well. The first DLC titled Ghost Survivors is scheduled to launch in just two weeks time.

Additionally, Capcom has also announced some other numbers related to the franchise. According to the press release, Resident Evil 7 has recently reached the 6-million copies milestone, while the overall series has surpassed the 88-million units mark, sold on the market ever since 1996.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is released for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
