Over the weekend, one of the biggest esports competitions in the world hosted its final showdown. During it, Blizzard celebrated its Overwatch League grand finals in Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, where the favorites San Francisco Shock, were challenged by Vancouver Titans for a chance to win the grand prize of 1.1 million dollars.
Prior to the finals, the teams were on equal footing since during the regular season their matchup record against each other was 2-2. However, San Francisco Shock was still regarded as the favorites to win the whole thing, such an assumption was based on their amazing regular season track record. The predictions soon turned true as Vancouver Titans barely managed to keep up with the pace of their rivals right from the get-go.
San Francisco Shock took the first map Lijiang Tower in convincing fashion, while the next two were a bit more evenly matched since both times Vancouver Titans managed to drag the game into overtime, however, still failed to secure at least one map. The last game in the series culminated in Gibraltar. San Francisco Shock escorted their payload through all three checkpoints while titans responded with only two.
Congratulations to San Francisco Shock with a well-deserved victory!
