There’s no denying that Sony dominated this console generation due to quality exclusive games produced by Sony-owned studios. Seems like the company doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon – the new announcement states that the company has bought Insomniac Games, yet another big game development studio.
Insomniac Games is the 14th internal game development studio that will work under the Sony flag. In case you can’t recall where did you hear the name of Insomniac, it’s the same studio who brought PS4 exclusive Spider-Man to life, along with one of PlayStation classics – Ratchet and Clank. However, prior to purchase by Sony, Insomniac Games worked on games dedicated to other platforms as well. The studio has one notable exclusive dedicated to Xbox One, called Sunset Overdrive.
Our take on this is that Sony is also gearing up for the next round of console wars. Recently the biggest Sony competitor in the console market, Microsoft, acquired studios like Obsidian Entertainment, Ninja Theory, and Double Fine Productions. Insomniac Games acquisition by Sony can be seen as a soft response trying to secure some ground before the reveal of PlayStation 5. Don’t be surprised if you see the new PlayStation console reveal with some kind of exclusive Insomniac Games developed titles fairly soon…
