Sony is launching its revamped and reworked PS Plus subscription service in June 2022. The new 3-tier subscription is a counterattack against Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass and promises Sony console owners the best of two previous Sony memberships – PS Plus and PS Now. Though the first and the cheapest tier, PS Plus Essential, will be exactly the same as the previous PS Plus, the other two are all about the games. Interested? Why should I subscribe to PS Plus?
PS Plus Extra has the same features as good old PS Plus, meaning, access to online multiplayer, cloud saving, free monthly games, and discounts on the PSN Store. However, it will also have up to 400 Sony exclusive and third-party games playable on both PS4 and PS5. Sony has already revealed games that will launch with the new subscription, including God of War, Death Stranding, Demon’s Souls, Returnal, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Ghost of Tsushima, and NBA 2K22 to only name a few.
Sony is also teaming up with Ubisoft to bring games from Ubisoft+ to their subscription service. The addition will be called Ubisoft+ Classics, and such games as For Honor, Far Cry 3, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla are already confirmed to be launched with PS Plus for free. That’s a sweet cherry on top of an already amazing cake! Moreover, it is said that this partnership is only a beginning and with time we might see even more Ubisoft games launching on PS Plus.
The third and the most expensive tier is named PS Plus Premium, and it has the exact same core features as previous, cheaper tiers. But to justify the price it adds even more games! PS1, PS2, and PS3 games will be available to play through streaming. The total amount of games with PS Plus Premium will result in over 700 titles. Some developers are even bringing trophy support to the PS1 and PS2 titles.
