We’ve been wondering how much more will Activision wait until it rolls out their next Call of Duty game marketing campaign. The end of the summer is usually a great time for such things, so here we are. People were scouring the internet to confirm certain leaks, looked for some additional clues, and got to a point where we received our first official teaser which serves as a confirmation for the next Call of Duty game called Black Ops: Cold War.
The teaser is basically a historical footage reel that serves as a game’s set up. The video consists of archival footage from the Cold War time period and an interview with KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov who speaks about how Soviet spy codename: ‘Perseus’ has infiltrated Western intelligence. His goal was to subvert the U.S. to ensure Soviet dominance in the arms race. Apparently, to this day his identity remains unknown.
The video also features a sign that Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War will be inspired by actual events, meaning that this year we’re moving away from Modern war setting and getting yet another narrative-driven CoD based on actual historical events. Nice!
Currently, we only know the setting of the game. However, the trailer also reveals when we can expect a full reveal of a new game – on August 26.
It’s also worth noting that this teaser trailer is still not public on Call of Duty’s YouTube channel. This is due to the fact that it’s a finish line of a smart ARG (alternate reality game) created by the developers. For a few days now the Call of Duty community was trying to solve some clues found in Call of Duty: Warzone’s Verdanks map which led to this reveal. Apparently, there might be a connection to Warzone and Black Ops: Cold War. We’ll know for certain in just a week.
While you wait, we suggest checking out our Call of Duty collection. We have some great series’ games cheaper.
