Not a lot of old MMORPG games managed to keep its player-base engaged throughout the years. In order to stay relevant among the likes of World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV or The Elder Scrolls Online, MMORPG games need to have rich lore from which they could draw inspiration for the new content. The Lord of the Rings Online definitely has some stories for game developers to explore.
Yesterday, Standing Stone Games released a new trailer announcing the seventh expansion for The Lord of the Rings Online. The new expansion is called Minas Morgul and, as the name suggests, allows players to explore the Dead City.
The official announcement states:
“The Lord of the Rings Online: Minas Morgul will take you on an expedition deep into the Morgul Vale in search of answers to a mystery that spans three thousand years. The words of the shade of Isildur will unearth secrets and visions of the Second Age that have remained untold until now, revealing playable landscape and new adventures from a crucial time in Middle-earth’s history.”
The key features of the new expansion include a new 130 level cap, 2 new zones, and 250+ new quests. Minas Morgul will also add 7 new instances and a new 12-player raid culminating with a fight against a well known Spider monster called Shelob. Additionally, the new expansion adds a new playable race called Stout-axe Dwarves.
LOTRO: Minas Morgul expansion was released just a week ago and has already gathered quite an audience of Middle-earth fans. However, we believe that the new upcoming show for Amazon, which incidentally also focuses on the Second Age of Middle-earth might boost LOTRO popularity even further.
