One more major publisher announced about rebranding its launcher and connecting all the services into one. Ubisoft Connect will be a new way to launch Ubisoft games, combining Uplay and Ubisoft Club services into one. And not just that! Apparently, Ubisoft Connect will support cross-play and cross-progression for all the upcoming Ubisoft games.
Ubisoft describes its new service as a new “ecosystem of players services for Ubisoft games across all platforms”. The new launcher should debut alongside the upcoming Watch Dogs Legion game which is set for October 29th.
There is more information about Ubisoft Connect on Ubisoft’s FAQ section which details some interesting additions. Here’s a full quote:
“It is the unification and improvement of Ubisoft Club, our loyalty program, and Uplay, our Desktop App, across all platforms. It aims at giving the best environment for all players to enjoy their games and connect with each others whatever the device.
All Ubisoft live games and new releases will support Ubisoft Connect services and loyalty program.
On our back catalogue games, you will be able to access Ubisoft Connect services (stats, leaderboard, Smart Intel when applicable), but the challenge system is inactive. As a consequence, we have decided to offer you all the rewards available on these games: you now have more than 1.000 Rewards for free to enjoy!”
However, the most interesting feature of the new service will be cross-play and cross-progression support. Ubisoft says that most of its multiplayer-enabled games will be able to transfer save data to the servers and fetch it in case you decide to switch your gaming platform. Ubisoft Connect will be accessible through PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, iOS, Android, and web.
It will be interesting to see how it works upon launch but it’s safe to assume that at the beginning there will be only a handful of Ubisoft titles eligible for this cross-platform connection. However, Ubisoft laid out their plans to add more old and new games to this service in the future.
