If by some chance you’ve missed yesterday’s debut video from Epic Games which showed the latest version of Unreal Engine 5, we have you covered. Yesterday Epic Games’ Technical Director of Graphics Brian Karis and Special Projects Art Director Jerome Platteaux sat down and unveiled what the future of games will look like. And it sure as hell looks dope.

Take a look:

According to the description of the video. This is a real-time demo that runs on PlayStation 5 which means that everything you see in the video can be played through and recreated on any next-generation console.

The developers of this hypnotizing technology demonstrations serve up an in-depth look at two core Unreal Engine 5 technologies:

“Lumen in the Land of Nanite” – a real-time demonstration running live on PlayStation 5 showcasing two new core technologies that will debut in UE5: Nanite virtualized micropolygon geometry, which frees artists to create as much geometric detail as the eye can see, and Lumen, a fully dynamic global illumination solution that immediately reacts to scene and light changes. “

Speaking in human language, this means that new Unreal Engine 5 (at least running on PlayStation 5) is able to allow artists to effortlessly render models comprised of billions of polygons, enable dynamic and highly realistic lighting in games and load massive game worlds without any delay.

The only question is… when we’ll get a game looking like that? And the answer might be a bit saddening. While the Unreal Engine 5 demo is running on PlayStation 5 console, the tech won’t be ready to use for developers until early 2021. That means that at least the launch line-up for the next-gen consoles won’t be as sharp as this demo. But hey, the future of gaming is very bright.
