There are a bunch of Worms games out there and we as an official partner of Team 17 have all of them in our store. However, it looks like the collection of Worms games is getting even bigger. Team 17 just dropped a new trailer titled Worms 2020 which hints another series entry coming later this year.
In case you didn’t know, the very first Worms game was released almost 25 years ago, in 1995 which means that the new game might be dedicated to mark this franchise’s anniversary. Teaser description states that Worms 2020 will bring “new ways to play” but we still don’t have any details about what it could mean. However, from what we’ve seen in the video we can make some assumptions.
The most accurate guess we can muster at this point is that the new game won’t be a traditional 2D game. The teaser features a 3D worm destroying the TV showing 2D gameplay so this might be a hint that Worms are coming back with another 3D series entry. The first such Worms game was released in 2003 as Worms 3D but weren’t super popular among the series fans.
However, times change, so Team 17 might be tempted to give this concept another go. Having in mind that the latest Worms game released in 2016, Worms W.M.D. essentially was a remake of a classic Worms Armageddon, Worms 2020 might try to revitalize 3D turn-based strategy battles.
On the other hand, some brave souls even started speculating that Worms might be trying out virtual reality platforms since the trailer description also features a line: “Things are getting real in 2020”. Only time will tell. However, it’s nice to know that we’re getting one more game in this iconic turn-based strategy game series.
