Why are sports video games so popular?

Because of their competitive nature, just like real-world sports, interactive games are very popular. First of all, in these games, you can play not only against AI, but you can play them with or against your friends, or other people in a multiplayer mode. Secondly, the main difference between other types of competitive video games and sports games is that you can control famous, real-life players from real-world teams and franchises.
