Bloober Team And Konami Join Forces on Mystery Project

Following its list of successful games in the horror genre, Polish studio Bloober Team has been given the vote of confidence by Japanese video games giant Konami to proceed with a joint mystery project. Given the history of the European game makers, it stands to reason that another horror game is on the horizon.

Bloober Team’s first big hit was Layers of Fear in 2016, followed by Observer the next year, Layers of Fear 2 in 2019, the same year as they released a video game based on the Blair Witch movie from 2016, all building towards vast experience within the horror genre.

“Of course, we can’t reveal too many details at this time, but we are confident that fans will be just as excited about our collaboration as we are. We can’t wait to share something truly special with players when the time is right,” co-founder and CEO of Bloober Team Piotr Babieno said in a press release.

A Study In Fear

The original Silent Hill 2 was released in 2001 by Konami following the survival horror boom of the late-1990s, a time that saw titles like Resident Evil 2 and Alone in The Dark 3 gain favorable reviews.

Silent Hill 2 follows James Sunderland as he travels to the titular town after receiving a letter from his dead wife. There, he encounters grotesque monsters and psychological horror.

An Award-Winning Remake

The Silent Hill 2 remake won numerous awards, including Game of the Year 2024 from IGN Japan and Best Horror Game of the Year from the IGN Community Awards. As of January 2025, it’s sold over 2 million copies.

“Our collaboration with Konami has been incredibly fruitful, and the success of Silent Hill 2 speaks for itself,” Babieno said.

Editor, occasional game dev, constant dad, horror writer, noisy musician. I love games that put effort into fun mechanics, even if there’s a bit of jank here and there. I’m also really keen on indie dev news. My first experience with video games was through the Game and Watch version of Donkey Kong, because I’m older than I look.
