Jon Bellamy Takes Over As CEO Of Jagex – The Future Of RuneScape 3

The makers of the RuneScape MMORPG, Jagex, announced a CEO transition on March 4, 2025, with Phil Mansell stepping down to make way for Jon Bellamy, who’s been serving as member of the board of the company since he re-joined the team in October, 2024.
Both Mansell and Bellamy appeared together in a video, announcing the shift in Jagex’s leadership. Bellamy was quick to say that he felt honored to have been chosen to lead the company and lay any rumors to rest regarding the future of RuneScape 3.
“It’s such a precious game to so many millions and I believe it deserves another 20 years of sustainable, healthy existence, defined by the same qualities that have driven much of old school RuneScape’s success,” Bellamy said.
“The priority for RuneScape 3 must be long-term health and sustainability, and the recent release of group Iron Man Mode and RS3’s recently announced inaugural league coming later this year are fantastic examples of the direction of travel I will be endorsing.”
Shouldering The Mantel
Bellamy joined Jagex’s mergers & acquisitions team initially in 2015, where he played a key role in the company’s turnaround and its subsequent sale to Shanghai Fukong Interactive Entertainment Co.
After leaving Jagex three years later, Bellamy joined the investment side of the gaming industry as a venture capitalist and contributed to a large number of successful deals involving direct investments, secondary sales, and acquisition. From 2019 to 2023, he oversaw commercial strategies and operations as CCO for Huuuge Games, before returning to Jagex in late 2024.
Outgoing CEO Phil Mansell said he was incredibly thankful for his time at Jagex and the opportunity to shape the amazing games at Jagex and with the community.
“After 14 incredible years at Jagex with eight as CEO, I’m stepping back from my role. I’m handing over the batton to someone I know deeply cares about RuneScape and who’s going to build upon the strong foundation we have built so far,” Mansell said.
The Future Of RuneScape
Though leaving Jagex for a few years, Bellamy never left the RuneScape gaming community and kept playing the game for the love of it.
“I’ve been playing RuneScape in its various guises for more than 20 years now and what was once a niche medieval pointing click MMORPG has grown into two cornerstones with millions of us players past and present,” Bellamy said.
Leaning forward and speaking directly to the camera and the viewers, the incoming CEO said he loves the RuneScape franchise and knows where the lines in the sand are and that he is committed to the values and principles of the company’s games and player communities.
“My goal is not to come in here and make big sweeping changes to our core games. In fact, that’s the exact opposite of what I want or plan to do,” he said.
