Jump Start Platformer Game Development With KayKit

Game developers old and new can now get started on prototyping a platformer a lot quicker, with the release of the KayKit Platformer Pack by noted asset maker Kay Louseberg. Gamers who have always fancied taking a crack at making a game might also like to check the pack out as it’s available for free.
The Platformer Pack contains over 120 3D assets in a variety of shapes and colors, from conveyor belts to ledges to pipes. They can be mixed and matched to create levels for a variety of game types.
“Perfect for making platformers, party games, mini games, obstacles courses and whatever else you can think of,” Kay said on the asset pack’s Itch page.
Plenty of Pieces
There are three versions of the pack available: Free, Extra, and Source. The basic version has over 120 pieces. Extra has all these plus 40% more bits like saw traps and spikes, that take the full count up to 525 pieces. The Source version bundles all of these assets into a Blend file that can be opened up and tweaked in Blender, a free 3D modeling program.
The Platformer Pack is presented in Kay’s trademark low poly style. This is a popular art style used in a lot of games. It’s also popular with game developers as low poly models tend to use less vertices (basically, angles) than normal 3D models, which means levels can load faster as there’s less strain on graphics cards.
KayKit Background
Kay Louseberg has been releasing 3D asset packs for a while, making him one of the most well-known names on the dev side of the video game industry, at least with indie developers. Previous packs include specific themes, like Halloween and Medieval, as well as targeted to set locations and genres, like Dungeon and City Builder.
All the assets are presented in .FBX, .GLTF, and .OBJ file types, which can be used with a ton of game development tools like Unity, Godot and Unreal Engine.
