ASRock Motherboard and AMD Ryzen 9000 Failures: ASRock Responds

This last week has seen a lot of reports over on Reddit from gamers complaining about AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs dying or otherwise failing on ASRock motherboards. While AMD has remained quiet, ASRock has now issued a public statement and various fixes to try and address the issue.

It’s important to note that this issue has affected other motherboards from other companies, but the ASRock/AMD combo is certainly the most prevalent.

“ASRock has observed reports on Reddit from users experiencing unexpected boot issues and error codes when using ASRock AM5 motherboards paired with minority proportion of AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors,” the company said in a recent press release.

What’s The Issue?

The main problem being reported by users is a failure to boot. This is closely followed by reports of AMD CPUs outright dying, or being damaged in some way.

“Since yesterday I cannot boot anymore, the mainboard stays completely dead,” said Reddit user j0sp0r on Feb. 27, 2025.

This comment was preceded by similar reports from other posters, such as user DistributionFun6280, who said, on Feb. 21, 2025: “I’m the one who had two separate 9800X3Ds fail after a week. AMD have confirmed the second one is dead after sending it back for RMA and will send out a third one soon.”

Aris, from the Hardware Busters YouTube channel, noted in a recent video that his PC failed to boot six times out of 10, and that there were burn marks on his AMD 9600X. He did note that ASRock quickly released a new BIOS for the board he was using, a B850i Lighting, after his video was published.

ASRock Offers Updates

ASRock’s recent press release mentions an updated 3.20 Beta BIOS for its AM5 series motherboards, and the good news is that the company has also linked to a steadily growing list of other BIOS updates for other ASRock products, including the B650 Pro RS, B850 Steel Legend WiFi and A620M-HDV/M.2+.

Gamers with AMD Ryzen CPUs and ASRock motherboards are advised to check the parent company sites for software updates.
