Blades Of Fire By MercurySteam Coming In May, 2025

Independent studio MercurySteam has teamed up with leading video game publisher 505 Games to release the studio’s latest creation, Blades of Fire, on PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series on May 22, 2025.

The independent developer is best known for their work on modernizing the Castlevania and Metroid series for Nintendo, while 505 Games is the company that published Control by Remedy Entertainment in 2019, which went on to be nominated for game of the year.

“MercurySteam’s pedigree for creating unique and beloved games is just one of the many reasons we’re thrilled to partner with them on Blades of Fire,” said Neil Ralley, President of 505 Games, in a press release.

Blades Of Fire Storyline

As the last hero who can wield steel in a world where all steel has been turned into stone by an evil Queen, players will team up with a young scholar who knows everything necessary about lost myths and languages on a journey to bring the evil ruler to her knees.

The protagonist, Aran de Lira, is faced with unique challenges along the way and must learn to combine a seemingly endless number of alloys, hilts, and runes to ultimately craft a weapon powerful enough to slay abominations.

Special Features In The Game

Blades of Fire is a fantasy epic with a gory combat system that allows players to attack specific bodyparts of enemies with stabs or blunt force. Successfully killing enemies largely depends on the equipped weapon.

There are seven different weapon families and 30 Forge Scrolls in the game, allowing for a vast number of possibilities to create weapons that vary in weight, length, durability, penetration, and edge quality.

The world contains huge castles and maze-like palaces and players are encouraged to explore it as much as possible, but it’s not been confirmed if the game features an open world or follows a more linear progression.
