AYANEO Release Retro-Inspired Handheld, The Pocket Micro Classic

AYANEO was only founded in 2020 but has already made a name for itself as a creator of high quality (and high priced) handhelds. However, the Pocket Micro Classic is one of its cheapest models so far, yet retains the brand’s retro-analogue charm.
Clearly modelled after older handhelds such as the Game Boy Micro and original Game and Watch line, the Pocket Micro Classic features a retro joystick-free design and colorful CNC aluminum alloy body.
“Have you ever dreamed of returning to those simpler times when gaming was all about straightforward fun without complex controls? The Pocket Micro Classic is the rebirth of that nostalgic sentiment,” the company said in a press release.
“It breaks free from the constraints of joysticks, returning to the most intuitive and pure form of control. This is not just an innovation in design but also an exploration of the essence of pure gaming.”
Classic Look, Modern Craftsmanship
The Pocket Micro Classic tweaks the design of previous Pocket devices by removing the thumbsticks and rearranging the button layout to better resemble older controllers. However, the guts of the Micro Classic aren’t as old-fashioned, thanks to an X-axis linear motor for precision vibration feedback, and 3.5-inch 640P IPS true-color screen, which crucially doesn’t squash the image and offers 4X HD.
The Micro Classic also comes with four shoulder buttons, and these are split so as to prevent misclicks. The L2 and R2 buttons are also slightly higher to provide better player feedback and control. Users can also customize settings, such as rapid-fire mode, button mapping and vibration intensity adjustment.
By Real Gamers, For Other Gamers
AYANEO’s motto is “Real gamers know gamers” and the company funnels this idea into all its products. Created so players could have handheld devices that run on Windows as well as Android, AYANEO’s products include compatibility with online game stores so it’s possible to download and play newer titles, not just older games.
The Pocket Micro Classic runs on Android 13 and uses the company’s proprietary AYA Space game management software. It’s available from April 2025 and comes in three designs: Retro Gold, Magic Black, and Retro Gray.
