Rockstar Games Acquires Australian Video Games Deluxe For Undisclosed Amount

In a joint press release on March 3, 2025, Rockstar Games confirmed the purchase of Australia-based game developer Video Games Deluxe for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition will see a re-branding of Video Games Deluxe to Rockstar Australia and solidify the working relationship spanning over a decade.
The relationship between them began with former studio Team Bondi, founded by Brendan McNamara, who would move on to found Video Games Deluxe, and their collaboration on the critically acclaimed detective thriller L.A. Noire which was released in 2017.
“After working together closely over many years, we are excited to have Video Games Deluxe join the team as Rockstar Australia,” said Rockstar Games Head of Publishing, Jennifer Kolbe.
McNamara expressed equal excitement over the prospect of joining the Rockstar Games family.
“It’s been an honor to work closely with Rockstar Games this past decade,” he said. “We are thrilled to be part of Rockstar Games and to continue our efforts to make the best games possible.”
No Deal Structure Disclosed
As of this writing, neither party has revealed any details of the acquisition or what the future will hold for the newly bought Australian branch. It’s already been speculated that the new Rockstar Australia could work on Grand Theft Auto 6, likely to be released later in 2025.
Another rumor has it that the company will be assigned to help out on various Virtual Reality projects.
Grand Theft Auto is one of the most successful video games series in the world with more than 440 million copies sold. Including in-game purchases which are said to be in the hundreds of millions, Rockstar Games is not hard up for cash.
The only thing for certain is that this deal is nowhere near as big as Microsoft’s finalized purchase of Activision Blizzard in 2023 for a massive $75.4 billion.
