Stealth Action Platformer SteamDolls Releases Into Early Access With AAA Voice Cast
French-Belgian studio, The Shady Gentlemen, has launched SteamDolls – Order of Chaos into Early Access on PC. The game features a top voice cast including Jennifer Hale and Christopher Randolph, with Solid Snake himself, David Hayter, as protagonist The Whisper.
Based on a comic book, SteamDolls is set in a steampunk city on the brink of falling into chaos. Players take control of The Whisper, a witty, weird and bloodthirsty anarchist, as he uncovers the darkest secrets of this dying world.
SteamDolls presents “a unique stealth-lite meets action platformer experience, with a hint of brutal combat and deep levels of exploration,” according to a company press release.
Comic Book Action
SteamDolls takes the 2D art style of the original comic and places it in a side-scrolling 3D world. The game offers players plenty of opportunities to explore the mad labyrinth of the hub city, including an electrified industrial bunker, an abandoned chapel being reclaimed by nature, a growing insectoid infection, a dark underbelly made of what just might be flesh, and more.
Exploration also yields rewards that can be used in the home base to upgrade The Whisper’s abilities to suit different play styles, as well as to unlock world lore, trophies, and fully-voiced, animated cutscenes.
Dream Project
Originally teased back in 2019, SteamDolls was conceived based on a comic book from the development team and then successfully Kickstarted soon after. As a passion project for the studio, The Shady Gentlemen note that “the title has more to offer than just its AAA voice work and beautiful art.”
Players will need to “balance stealth and brutality to make your goals into reality.” This will be possible thanks to a mix of head-on combat with devastating finishers, assassination techniques, hacking, puzzle-solving, and lurking in the shadows.
SteamDolls – Order of Chaos is published by Top Hat Studios (Frogun, Crypt Custodian) and this Early Access release also comes with a free demo of the intro section. The game is already available in multiple languages, including English and Spanish, with six chapters currently playable.
