Have you received a call from someone claiming to be from a tax agency, police, insurance, computer, or other important service?
Governmental agencies and insurance companies will always mail you a written letter to notify you of any issues or send one if you request it.
Have you encountered a pop-up on your computer stating that it is infected/hacked/blocked?
If you have restarted your computer and are still having issues, call your local computer service center for assistance. Do not trust anyone claiming to be a remote agent.
Have you been asked to pay for a service using gift cards?
Gift cards cannot be used as a payment method. No legitimate business will accept gift card credits as payment.
Did someone ask you to log into your bank account for a loan or a refund?
All legitimate financial transactions are done through official channels, such as banks, and do not require any action from you. All refunds are done directly from the side of the party that is refunding the transaction and no action is needed on your side.
Did someone connect to your computer?
There are very few cases where someone would need to connect to your computer remotely. As an end-user, you should never need that. An official representative will never ask to connect to your computer. If you are having issues with your device, always contact local service centers for assistance.
If any of the questions above apply to your situation, you are likely being scammed.
